Its symptoms are: dizziness, burning sensation, thirst, pricking pain, aching, body-ache, cramping, trembling, fever, tamaka cough, bursting and loosening pain in the bones and joints, shaking, anorexia, indigestion, cloudiness of the eyes, shedding of tears, and a sensation like ants crawling over the limbs; and in whichever region the visarpa spreads, that region appears grayish-reddish, is swollen, and is intensely afflicted with pricking, tearing, aching, tension, contracture, horripilation, and twitching; and if untreated, it becomes covered with quickly bursting thin blisters that are reddish or grayish, with a thin, non-slimy, reddish, scanty discharge; there is retention of flatus, urine, and feces; and things described among its causes do not agree with him, while their opposites agree: this is vātavisarpa.
