8.9.5

teṣāṃ trayāṇāmanyatamasyāpi bhedādāśveva śarīrabhedaḥ syāt, āśrayanāśādāśritasyāpi vināśaḥ; tadupaghātāttu& ghorataravyādhiprādurbhāvaḥ; tasmādetāni viśeṣeṇa rakṣyāṇi bāhyābhighādvātādibhyaśca//

From the destruction of even one of these three, rapid destruction of the body would occur, for when the substrate is destroyed, the supported also perishes; but from their impairment, most frightful diseases appear; therefore, these must be protected especially from external trauma and from vāta and the other [doṣas].
