samudbabhūvāmṛtamanthanotthaḥ
svedaḥ śilābhyo'mṛtavadgireḥ prāk .
yo mandarasyātmabhuvā hitāya
nyastaśca śaileṣu śilājarūpī .. 192 ..

The sweat produced from the churning of the nectar, / which arose like ambrosia from the rocks of Mount Mandara of old, / was deposited on the mountains by the Self-born One for the welfare [of mankind] / in the form of bitumen. (192)
