aśaknuvaṃs tu śuśrūṣāṃ śūdraḥ kartuṃ dvijanmanām
putradārātyayaṃ prāpto jīvet kārukakarmabhiḥ //
But a Sudra, being unable to find service with the twice-born and threatened with the loss of his sons and wife (through hunger), may maintain himself by handicrafts.
