ārṣaṃ dharmopadeśaṃ ca vedaśāstrāvirodhinā
yas tarkeṇānusaṃdhatte sa dharmaṃ veda netaraḥ //

He alone, and no other man, knows the sacred law, who explores the (utterances) of the sages and the body of the laws, by (modes of) reasoning, not repugnant to the Veda-lore.
