ekadeśaṃ tu vedasya vedāṅgāny api vā punaḥ
yo 'dhyāpayati vṛttyartham upādhyāyaḥ sa ucyate //
But he who for his livelihood teaches a portion only of the Veda, or also the Angas of the Veda, is called the sub-teacher (upadhyaya).
