vedam eva sadābhyasyet tapas tapsyan dvijottamaḥ
vedābhyāso hi viprasya tapaḥ param ihocyate //

Let a Brahmana who desires to perform austerities, constantly repeat the Veda; for the study of the Veda is declared (to be) in this world the highest austerity for a Brahmana.
