vedapradānād ācāryaṃ pitaraṃ paricakṣate
na hy asmin yujyate karma kiñ cid ā mauñjibandhanāt //

They call the teacher (the pupil's) father because he gives the Veda; for nobody can perform a (sacred) rite before the investiture with the girdle of Munga grass.
