cūḍākarma dvijātīnāṃ sarveṣām eva dharmataḥ
prathame 'bde tṛtīye vā kartavyaṃ //

According to the teaching of the revealed texts, the Kudakarman (tonsure) must be performed, for the sake of spiritual merit, by all twice-born men in the first or third year.
