jñānaniṣṭhā dvijāḥ ke cit taponiṣṭhās tathāpare
tapaḥsvādhyāyaniṣṭhāś ca karmaniṣṭhās tathāpare //

Some Brahmanas are devoted to (the pursuit of) knowledge, and others to (the performance of) austerities; some to austerities and to the recitation of the Veda, and others to (the performance of) sacred rites.
