pitāmaho vā tacchrāddhaṃ bhuñjītety abravīn manuḥ
kāmaṃ vā samanujñātaḥ svayam eva samācaret //

Manu has declared that either the grandfather may eat at that Sraddha (as a guest), or (the grandson) having received permission, may perform it, as he desires.
