vedābhyāsena satataṃ śaucena tapasaiva ca
adroheṇa ca bhūtānāṃ jātiṃ smarati paurvikīm //

By daily reciting the Veda, by (the observance of the rules of) purification, by (practising) austerities, and by doing no injury to created beings, one (obtains the faculty of) remembering former births.
