sarveṣām api caiteṣāṃ vedavidhānataḥ
gṛhastha ucyate śreṣṭhaḥ sa trīn etān bibharti hi //
And in accordance with the precepts of the Veda and of the Smriti, the housekeeper is declared to be superior to all of them; for he supports the other three.
