śarīrakarṣaṇāt prāṇāḥ kṣīyante prāṇināṃ yathā
tathā rājñām api prāṇāḥ kṣīyante rāṣṭrakarṣaṇāt //

As the lives of living creatures are destroyed by tormenting their bodies, even so the lives of kings are destroyed by their oppressing their kingdoms.
