The mantra is:
“Homage to you, very terrifying, crusher of the moon and sun; by this offering of fire oblation and asterism, become bestower of peace to me. / Homage to you, O Vidhuṃtuda, unfallen delight of Siṃhikā; by this gift of a serpent, protect me from the fear of [celestial] penetration.”
Further details should be known from my Nirṇayasindhu.
In an astrological treatise:
“If the planet Rāhu, by the power of its transit, moves through the natal, twelfth, fifth, fourth, eighth, ninth, second, or seventh [house], / it causes agitation, fear from the king, dread, loss of wealth, disease, exile, death, and fear of fire.”
On an eclipse occurring outside the normal moon-phase, Mayūracitra in the Adbhutasāgara says:
“Outside the normal moon-phase, the great planet named Tviṣṭa, dark as darkness, / covers the moon and sun, to the peril of the whole world. / A wise man should offer eight thousand pieces of udumbara wood, / smeared with honey, with the verse ‘jātavedase…’; / one should give a dakṣiṇā to a brāhmaṇa, along with a cow and a bull.”
Thus concludes the propitiatory rite for Rāhu.
