dve janmanī dvijātīnāṃ mātuḥ syāt prathamaṃ tayoḥ
dvitīyaṃ chandasāṃ māturgrahaṇādvidhivadguroḥ
The twice-born have two births: the first of these is from the mother;
the second is from receiving the mother of the metres according to rule from the preceptor.
