śurismṛtipurāṇānāṃ virodho yatra dṛśyate
tatra śrautaṃ pramāṇantu tayordvaidhe smṛtirvarā
Where a conflict is seen among revealed scripture, remembered tradition, and the Purāṇas,
there the revealed scripture is the authoritative source; in case of conflict between the [latter] two, remembered tradition is superior.
