keśāntakarmaṇā tatra yathoktacaritavrataḥ
samāpya vedān vedau vā vedaṃ vā prasabhaṃ dvijaḥ
having observed the vow as prescribed, through the rite of shaving the beard,
having completed the Vedas, or two Vedas, or one Veda with diligence, the twice-born,

snāyīta gurvanujñātaḥ pravṛttoditadakṣiṇaḥ
permitted by his preceptor, should take the bath, having offered the prescribed sacrificial fee.

iti śrīvedavyāsīye dharmaśāstre brahmacaryādhikāro nāma prathamo'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends the first chapter, titled 'The Authority on Student Celibacy', in the holy treatise on socio-religious duty by Vedavyāsa.
