atha gṛhasthāśramapraśaṃsāpūrvaka tīrthadharma varṇanam
iti vyāsakṛtaṃ śāstraṃ dharmasārasamuccayam
āśrame yāni puṇyāni mokṣadharmāśritāni ca

Now begins the description of the socio-religious duty of sacred fords, preceded by praise of the householder stage of life: / Thus is the treatise composed by Vyāsa, a compilation of the essence of socio-religious duty, / regarding the merits in the [householder] stage of life and those based on the socio-religious duty of liberation.
