ajñānāt tu dvijaśreṣṭha varṇānāṃ hitakāmyayā /
mayā proktam idaṃ śāstraṃ sāvadhāno 'vadhāraya //
Out of [sympathy for] ignorance, O best of the twice-born, and with a desire for the welfare of the castes, / this treatise has been spoken by me; attend to it with care.
