jātibhraṃśakaraṃ karma kṛtvānyatamam icchayā
caret sāṃtapanaṃ kṛcchraṃ prājāpatyam anicchayā //
He who has knowingly committed one of the acts effecting loss of caste shall perform the Sântapana penance; he who has done so unawares shall perform the Prâgâpatya penance.
