athāgamyāgamane mahāvratavidhānenābdaṃ cīravāsā vane prājāpatyaṃ kuryāt ||

One who has (unawares) had illicit sexual intercourse, must perform the Prâgâpatya penance for a year, according to the rule of the Mahâvrata, clad in a garment of bark, and living in a forest.
