aśītir yasya varṣāṇi bālo vāpy ūnaṣoḍaśaḥ
prāyaścittārdham arhanti striyo rogiṇa eva ca //
(An old man) who has passed his eightieth year, a youth under the age of sixteen, women, and sick persons have only to perform half of every penance.
