Vasiṣṭha said:---
Having properly installed Durgā according to the rule stated previously, one should worship her.
Likewise, O auspicious lady, one should worship Brahmins, maidens, and fair-complexioned women.
Having fed them according to one's capacity, one should give them fruits and other [gifts]---
coconuts and other fruits, nine of each, O dear lady!---
as well as copper and earthen vessels filled with milk,
and bamboo vessels, clothes, along with edible and chewable foods;
or vessels of sesame, or earthen vessels,
or other vessels filled with the fivefold nectar,
or vessels of auspicious items filled with saffron and the like.
Having said, "May Durgā the goddess be pleased with me," one should give [them] according to rule.
Durgā the goddess becomes pleased, [and] at the end of that is the breaking of the fast.
She remains happy as long as she lives, endowed with husband, sons, and wealth.
She attains on earth happiness from father, mother, and brother;
and O dear lady, she plays happily in the abode of Mother Bhavānī.
Thus has this great Navarātra observance been explained to you.
Whoever performs it is freed from sins and calamities; of this there is no doubt.
