a man should fast on the sixth lunar day. / Having obtained permission from the best of the twice-born, he should pray to Mandāra at night,” and so forth.
The Mandārasaptamī vow in the Padmapurāṇa:
“Now, therefore, I shall fully proclaim that which destroys all sins, / bestows all desires, holy, called Mandārasaptamī.
In the bright fortnight of Māgha, on the fifth lunar day, a man eating lightly, / having then used a tooth-stick, should fast on the sixth lunar day. Having well fed the Brāhmaṇas, he should consume Mandāra at night. / Then, rising at dawn, he should perform ablution. Again, Brāhmaṇas / he should feed according to his capacity, having made eight Mandāra flowers.”
