yugmān daive yathāśakti pitrye 'yugmāṃs tathaiva ca |
paristṛte śucau deśe dakṣiṇāpravaṇe tathā ||

[He should seat Brahmins in] an even number for the divine [rites] according to ability, and likewise an odd number for the ancestral [rites],
in an enclosed, pure spot, sloping toward the south.
