yadenduḥ pitṛdaivatye haṃsaś caiva kare sthitaḥ |
yasyāṃ tithir bhavet sā hi gajacchāyā prakīrtitā ||
When the moon is in the asterism dedicated to the ancestors (Maghā), and the sun is in the Hand (Hasta), / whichever lunar day occurs then, that indeed is declared to be the elephant's shadow.
