brahmakṣatriyaviṭśūdrā varṇās tv ādyās trayo dvijāḥ |
niṣekādyāḥ śmaśānāntās teṣāṃ vai mantrataḥ kriyāḥ ||
Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras are the social classes; but the first three are twice-born. / Their rites, from conception to the cremation ground, are performed indeed with sacred mantras.
