"Pūruṣa" means simply puruṣa (generation / person); "from a family renowned through ten generations" means through five on the mother's side and five on the father's side. "Of Vedic scholars" means of those who have studied the Vedas. "Study" is an indicative term: endowed with learning and study. "Great family" is a family that is great, prosperous with sons, grandsons, cattle, maidservants, villages, and the like; from that [family] a maiden must be taken—this is the restrictive rule.
