pāṇir grāhyaḥ savarṇāsu gṛhṇīyāt kṣatriyā śaram |
vaiśyā pratodam ādadyād vedane tv agrajanmanaḥ ||
The hand is to be taken in the case of women of the same class; a Kshatriya woman should take an arrow; / a Vaishya woman should take a goad; in marrying [a woman of lower class], however, by a twice-born man.
