Two shares for the eldest, one and a half shares for the one born immediately after him, and one share each for the younger ones—thus, even without taking out a special share, an unequal division has been shown for those who divide after the parents' death. And in a division made during the father's lifetime, an unequal division was shown by [the author] himself: 'or the eldest with the best share' (YDh 2.114). Therefore, since unequal division exists at all times, how can it be restricted by saying that they must divide equally alone?
