saptamād daśamād vāpi jñātayo 'bhyupayanty apaḥ |
apa naḥ śośucad agham anena pitṛdiṅmukhāḥ ||
The kinsmen, up to the seventh or even the tenth [degree], approach the water,
facing the direction of the ancestors, with the verse: "May our sin be consumed..."
