3.1.77

nārāyaṇabaliḥ kāryo lokagarhābhayān naraiḥ |
tathā teṣāṃ bhavec chaucaṃ nānyathety abravīd yamaḥ |
tasmāt tebhyo 'pi dātavyam annam eva sadakṣiṇam ||
iti |

"A Nārāyaṇabali should be performed by men out of fear of public condemnation;
only thus will their purity be achieved, not otherwise, so said Yama;
therefore, food accompanied by a fee must indeed be given for them;"
