kṣātreṇa karmaṇā jīved viśāṃ vāpy āpadi dvijaḥ |
nistīrya tām athātmānaṃ pāvayitvā nyaset pathi ||
A twice-born may live by the work of a Kshatriya or even of a Vaishya in distress;
having crossed over that [distress], then, having purified himself, he should place [himself] on the path.
