pātālānāmadhaścāste śeṣo viṣṇuś ca tāmasaḥ /
guṇānantyātsa cānantataḥ śirasā dhārayanmahīṃ //
And beneath the netherworlds dwells Śeṣa, Viṣṇu in his tamas quality, / and he is Ananta ('Infinite') on account of the infinity of his virtues, bearing the earth upon his head.
