vakṣye jayaśubhādyarthaṃ sāraṃ yuddhajayārṇave /
a+i+u+e+o svarāḥ syuḥ kramānnandādikā tithiḥ //
I shall declare the essence in the *Yuddhajayārṇava* for the purpose of victory, auspiciousness, and so forth:
The vowels shall be a, i, u, e, [and] o; the lunar days Nandā and so on, in sequence.
