devatve yātanāsthāne pretaḥ śrāddhaṃ kṛtaṃ labhet /
nopakuryānnaraḥ śocan pretasyātmana eva vā //
Whether in godhead or in a place of torment, the deceased receives what is performed in the ancestral rite.
A person achieves nothing by lamenting, either for the deceased or for oneself.
