caturvidhaṃ bhaikṣavastu kuṭīrakavahūdake /
haṃsaḥ paramahaṃsaś ca yo yaḥ paścāt sa uttamaḥ //
The mendicant [stage] is of four kinds: the Kuṭīcaka, the Bahūdaka, / the Haṃsa, and the Paramahaṃsa; each later one is superior [to the previous].
