brahmāvyaktaṃ sadāgre 'bhūt na khaṃ rātridinādikaṃ /
prakṛtiṃ puruṣaṃ viṣṇuḥ(1) praviśyākṣobhayattataḥ //
In the beginning there was always the unmanifest Brahman, not space, nor night, day, and so forth.
Then Viṣṇu, having entered primordial matter and the conscious spirit, agitated [them].
