aṣtau tānyavrataghnāni āpo mūlaṃ phalaṃ payaḥ /
havirbrāhmaṇakāmyā ca gurorvacanamauṣadhaṃ //
These eight do not break a votive observance: water, roots, fruits, milk, / sacrificial butter, what is desired by a brāhmaṇa, the guru's word, and medicine.
