agnir uvāca
caturthī vratānyākhyāsye bhuktimuktipradāni te(1) /
māghe śuklacaturthyāntu upavāsī yajed guṇaṃ //
Agni said: / I shall explain the votive observances of the fourth lunar day, which bestow worldly enjoyment and liberation upon you. / On the fourth lunar day of the bright fortnight in Māgha, fasting, one should worship Gaṇa (Gaṇeśa).
