agnir uvāca
ṣaṣṭhīvratāni vakṣyāmi kārttikādau samācaret(2) /
ṣaṣṭyāṃ phalāśano(3) 'rghyādyair bhuktimuktimavāpnuyāt //

Agni said: / I shall declare the votive observances of the sixth lunar day; one should undertake them beginning from Kārttika. / Eating fruit on the sixth lunar day, [worshiping] with water offerings and the like, one obtains worldly enjoyment and liberation.
