agnir uvāca
vrataṃ vakṣye caturdaśyāṃ bhuktimuktipradāyakaṃ(1) /
kārttike tu caturdaśyāṃ nirāhāro yajecchivam //
Agni said: / I will proclaim the votive observance on the fourteenth lunar day, which grants worldly enjoyment and liberation. / On the fourteenth lunar day in Kārttika, fasting, one should worship Śiva.
