Agnipurāṇa 24.12

tiryagūrdhvaṃ samaṃ khātādvahirardhantu śodhayet /
aṅgulasya caturthāṃśaṃ śeṣārdhārdhaṃ tathāntataḥ //
Level crosswise and upward, outside the excavated [hollow] one should clear half [the surface]; / one-fourth of a finger-breadth, and half of the remaining half at the edge.
