akṣavajjaśalākādyair daivataṃ dyūtamucyate /
pañcakriḍāvayobhiś ca prāṇidyutasamāhvayaḥ //
With dice, leather straps, sticks, and so forth, gaming without animate beings is called [gambling]; / and with betting on five types of play and birds, it is designated betting on live animals.
