devāsurāṇāṃ saṅgrāmā dāyārthaṃ dvādaśābhavan /
prathamo nārasiṃhastu dvitīyo vāmano raṇaḥ //

Twelve were the battles between the gods and asuras over their heritage: / the first was the Nārasiṃha [battle], and the second was the Vāmana conflict;
