vyantarā miśracihnāś ca bhūvarṣāgneyavāyavaḥ /
caturvidhāste ṣaḍviṃśabhedāḥ ṣoḍaśa gonasāḥ //
Intermediate snakes have mixed marks; [they are divided according to] earth, rain, fire, and wind. / They are of four kinds with twenty-six varieties; the gonasas are sixteen [varieties].
