agnir uvāca
vakṣye kūrmāvatārañca śrutvā pāpapraṇāśanam(3) /
purā devāsure yuddhe daityair devāḥ parājitāḥ //
Agni said:
I shall narrate the Tortoise Incarnation, hearing which destroys sins.
Formerly, in the war between gods and demons, the gods were defeated by the Daityas.
