naṣṭamadhye same 'ṅkenaḥ same 'rdha viṣame guruḥ /
pratilomaguṇaṃ nādyaṃ dviruddiṣṭaga ekanut //
In determining the lost [form] (naṣṭa), if the number is even, [a light syllable is placed] and it is halved; if odd, a heavy [syllable is placed and one is added]. / Multiplied in reverse order, not the first; doubled for an indicated heavy syllable, removing one.
