antasthābhiḥ samāyukta aurasyaḥ kaṇṭhya eva saḥ /
ātmabuddhyā samasyarthaṃ manoyukte vivakṣayā //
and joined with semivowels, is pectoral (aurasya), but alone it is guttural (kaṇṭhya). / The self, grasping the object with the intellect, sets the mind [to work] with the desire to speak.
